Summary

Dust is an excellent app created for those that wish to keep private conversations private. This app provides users with a bunch of tools that reinforce security, such as screenshot notification, military grade end-to-end encryption, and message deletion on both devices.

Pros

  • Military grade encryption
  • Aesthetically pleasing and easy to use
  • Totally free to use
  • Message deletion from both devices

Cons

  • No community aspect

Dusts’ different tools and features that promote privacy mean that it’s a popular choice for spicy conversations, and even those looking for a little extra-marital fun. Whether you’re looking for a sexting app or just a place to keep your personal information safe, Dust could be the solution for you. Let’s take a closer look at everything Dust has to offer!

Dust presentation

Dust is not only very popular, but it’s also very positively reviewed. With over 3,800 reviews and a 4,6-star rating, we have no doubt this app is widely appreciated. So what makes it so popular? Let’s find out.

dust presentation

Dust is not like many of the hookup sites we’ve reviewed in the past – there’s no community tab or ways to meet people actually in the app. Instead, the idea is to meet people with whom you wish to keep your conversations private, and add them on Dust. If you’re hoping to use Dust to get some extra-marital action, there are plenty of websites like Ashley Madison (read our Ashley Madison Review) that aim to help you find an adulterous partner. Then, simply add them to your Dust contacts to keep the conversation going on a secure messenger.

Dust review: how it works

Dust is an app only, and cannot be used on a web-browser. Although this may be off-putting for some, it’s extremely easy to use and intuitive even on a small screen, and we have no doubt Dust will meet all of your expectations. Once you’ve completed the download and registration process (detailed below), all you need to do is add contacts. You can search for Dust users, or add contacts with their phone number or email address.

Once someone is added as a contact, you can either message them privately, or send out a “blast” to all of your followers at once. Whether you’re using blast or DMs, all messages are secure and encrypted.

How to get started on Dust

To start using Dust, you’ll first need to visit either the App Store if you’re an iPhone user, or the Google Play store for Androids. Download the app for free, and open it up. You just need an email address or phone number to create an account: simply verify whichever contact method you pick, and the app will open up.

Registration and downloading Dust takes no longer than 30 seconds, which is something I really appreciated. No super long quizzes or lengthy personal information sections. Once you’re in, you can choose to add things like your bio, website, and profile photo. Adding a profile photo helps people you know find you, so if you’re okay with it, it’s a good idea – however if you’re looking for something private, don’t add a picture of yourself! As you’ll see later, other users can use the “Stealth Search” feature to get a look at you without you knowing, so stay safe and stay anonymous by keeping your profile blank.

Dust review: what features does the app have?

Next up on the Dust review checklist: features. Every good messaging app has to have some kind of unique features that draw people in, and Dust has these. Let’s take a closer look at some of the functionalities of the Dust app.

Message deletion

Any good secure messenger has a message deletion feature. You know, for those times you send a message and instantly regret it? When you get a little drunk and tell your coworker she looked hot today? Well, Dust doesn’t fall behind here either. Users can delete any message at any time, read or unread, on both devices. That means that even if your partner sees the message, you can just deny it later.

dust app features

Many messaging apps offer message deletion on your device, so if your phone gets in the way of prying eyes, you can be somewhat safe. However, not all of them offer the chance to delete on both devices, read or not.

Message encryption

Next up, another staple of secure messaging: end-to-end encryption. A secure messenger is only as good as its message encryption, and Dusts encryption is military grade. This means that not even the military themselves could decipher your messages! Not that they’d want to read your sexts, but still, it’s good to know, right?

End-to-end encryption is the process of scrambling your outgoing messages into ciphertext, and making it only able to be unscrambled by the recipient. This requires no action on your part, and is automatically done in the app.

Stealth search

The “Stealth Search” feature on Dust allows you to search for users in total secrecy: nobody will ever be notified of your presence, and you can check people out without them knowing, and they won’t even know you’re registered on Dust! This is something most apps reserve for premium members, so I loved being able to browse totally anonymously for free.

Screenshot notification

This feature is not as fancy as the screenshot proof technology detailed in my Confide review, but it’s still excellent! Basically, any time someone you’re chatting to takes a screenshot, you’ll be immediately notified. This means that you know who you can trust, and if someone tries to break your trust, you can block them without wasting any more time.

Dust review: is there a community aspect ?

Unfortunately, the biggest complaint I have about the Dust app is that there’s no way to meet new people through Dust. Many other sexting apps such as XMatch  have features like livestreams, community tabs, local users and activity feeds, but Dust is pretty basic in that aspect. The features all revolve around privacy and security, not meeting people.

So yes, Dust has less cool features than some other websites, but that means it can concentrate its efforts on making sure it’s the most secure app possible. No corners have been cut, and Dust has taken every care to ensure it’s the safest app it can be for all your sensitive conversations.

Dust accounts and pricing

So let’s get down to the nitty-gritty: pricing. Most good messaging apps are “freemium apps”, which means they’re free to sign up and get started, but you’ll need to subscribe to a premium account to get access to all features. However, there’s some good news here: Dust is 100% free! You’ll never be prompted to sign up for a paid account, ever.

dust privacy

This also means that all the features mentioned above, such as screenshot notification and message encryption are free too: whereas most sexting apps save some of their best features for their VIP members, Dust gives it all to everyone for free!

Dust review: pros and cons

So as we slowly creep our way towards the final verdict, it’s always useful to weigh up the pros and cons. Let’s take a quick, concise look at some of the best and worst things about Dust, so you can make an informed decision about whether or not it’s the app for you.

Pros
  • 100% free, forever
  • CyberDust tool suite keeps your conversations safe
  • The interface is simple and effective
  • Stealth mode keeps your profile private
  • Registration takes less than a minute
Cons
  • No community tab
  • Less fun features than some other apps

Dust review: my final verdict

So here we are, the final verdict. As you can probably already tell from the general tone of the article, I really liked Dust. The main draw being that I didn’t have to bust out my bank card at all! I was able to use all the tools Dust offers without paying a cent, which is something I’ve rarely seen from such a high-quality app, and probably why it’s got such good reviews. It’s hard to complain about an app that costs nothing to use!

During my time on the app, I had quite a few sexting sessions with a few girls I met on other websites, and even one of my coworkers I found with the search engine! Dust is super easy to use, and I felt totally safe sending even the most depraved, sexually charged messages. I did get a screenshot notification once, but seeing as I have nothing to hide, I wasn’t bothered. I assume she just wanted to show her friends how good my dirty talk was, right?

If you’re looking to try a secure and fun app for all your sexting needs, try Dust for free today, I promise you won’t regret it!
